  1. Here's something interesting I found when reading Ezekiel 16:1-14. The Sovereign Lord is talking about Jerusalem, when she was old enough for love: "I spread the corner of my garment over you...I gave you My solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you. You became Mine." It will be interesting if anyone can shed further light on this custom of "spreading the corner of my garment over you". Sandra

    1. This is an important reference you've surfaced Sandra. I'm going to have to work hard to bring any surprises to class at this rate. And that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned!

  2. Here's another thought: Was Boaz married? Or was he a wealthy, unmarried man? I think he was probably married because of their customs. It would put a different light on the story. Up to now I have loved the story of Ruth because of God's gracious love and David's (and Jesus's) lineage. However, if Boaz were married already, it would put him in a brighter light--he wasn't just getting himself a young wife but was redeeming the family--"spreading his garment" (his protection, provision, his name) over their family and their needs. Truly a gracious love! Sandra
