Here's another thought: Was Boaz married? Or was he a wealthy, unmarried man? I think he was probably married because of their customs. It would put a different light on the story. Up to now I have loved the story of Ruth because of God's gracious love and David's (and Jesus's) lineage. However, if Boaz were married already, it would put him in a brighter light--he wasn't just getting himself a young wife but was redeeming the family--"spreading his garment" (his protection, provision, his name) over their family and their needs.
